Studio 33 Art & Frame Gallery will be featuring Handmade Origami Whale Valentines, created by local artist Karen Boehm for this celebration exhibit – “Loving New London – 40 Years” – and specifically – the historic building at 138-140 Bank St. Erected in 1840 as a residence, now home to our gallery. The Greek Revival-style house was built by Franklin Smith, a Whaling Captain and Partner in the Perkins & Smith Whaling Firm. Capt. Smith was accompanied by his wife on four of his voyages, his only daughter Chelsea was named after the ship on which she was born while at sea. New London history – ah, the romance, come share the love and get your hand made Origami Whale Valentine for your special someone!

Studio 33 Art & Frame Gallery presents Art For The Holidays on Dec. 5, 2018; with a festive reception in the downtown gallery on Dec. 14, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Five local, award winning artists are featured in the show including abstract expressionists Diane Brown and Mark Patnode; and landscape painters Robert J. Hauschild, Ralph Acosta, and Liz McGee. Owner Sara Munro is also pleased to present an excellent opportunity for a collector to purchase a stunning collectible: Hirosaki Castle, Hiroshi Yoshida (1876-1950, Kurume, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan). From a Series: Eight Scenes of Cherry Blossoms – Sakura Hachidai, pre-WWII, c.1935. Hiroshi was a 20th C. Japanese painter and woodblock printmaker, regarded as one of the greatest artists of the shin-hanga style, noted especially for his excellent landscape prints. The New London Postcard Project, an ongoing community art project and fundraiser for New London Landmarks and New London Maritime Society is also exhibited.
