Studio 33 Art and Frame Gallery has always been a New London fixture, opening in the 1940’s as Costello’s, La Presle’s in the 50’s, Peter’s from ’69-’78 and Studio 33 Art & Frame Gallery in 1979. In November 2008 Studio 33 located at 140 Bank Street, next to the Custom House Maritime Museum. We share an 1840 Greek Revival Style building, the historic home of Franklin Smith, Partner in the Perkins and Smith Whaling Firm, with Waterhouse Salon and Spa, on the Historic Waterfront District Heritage Trail. Our gallery is warm and cozy with exposed brick and hardwood floors, and free street parking right outside our door, or park in the newly constructed municipal parking lot. We are just a short walk from the city’s railroad, bus and ferry transportation hub. Owner Sara Munro has over 35 years of framing experience. A favorite of her long-time customers, she is asked for by name when clients come in to get their pieces framed. The Studio 33 framing staff has over 75 combined years of framing experience. We offer expert advice on framing paintings, drawings, needlework, three-dimensional items and more to preserve and protect for years to come.
In addition to the wide variety of frames for all price points, there is a large volume of mat corners including specialty mats like linens & silks. Shadowboxes, Custom French Lines, Art Restoration and more are available at Studio 33. Studio 33 also offers a wide variety of local fine art and one of a kind artisanal gift items. We showcase artwork, jewelry, hand carved wooden items, coastal related items, pottery, laser cut wood charts (featuring Block Island and Long Island Sound), sea glass and pewter items, and Marguerites Custom Leather Jewelry. Gift wrapping is available free of charge, and Greeting Cards and Post Cards, many featuring local scenes, are also available for sale to round out your gift.
